To understand how to solve a problem, we must first understand what we are trying to fix. For example, can a carpenter without any medical experience repair a heart valve? Of course not, he or she must first obtain the proper education necessary to perform such a complex operation. The same can be said about the American education system. Throughout America’s history parents, educators, and government officials have been debating what changes must be implemented for American children to receive every opportunity possible to gain an education that will prepare them for the future. However, these cries for reform are so demanding that many times the reforms created to please the people are pushed through so fast that consequences are never†¦show more content†¦As it is now, schools with low standardized test scores are â€Å"punished† by having their federal funding cut or decreased. The attitude is, if you drop below standards, fix it, or you are out. How is this going to help schools raise test scores? This has had a detrimental effect on the possibility of schools to improve. For standardized testing to be useful in the school system, to hold teachers and schools accountable for what is taught, there must be an equality established first in schools. If standardized testing, with the cause and effect it creates, remains in place as our education systems measurement of accountability, then schools will continue to fail which will result in a loss of funds and they will eventually have to close. In other words, education gives the obtainer power to move beyond the normal realm and venture many times into unchartered waters. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States and costs over 176 billion dollars per year. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to the dysfunction of the pancreas. The two most common categories of diabetes mellitus are type 1 and type 2 (Huether McCance, 2012). In order to understand the differences and similarities between type 1 and type 2, the pathophyisology, assessment findings, and treatments of each type will be examined. Pathophysiology of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 diabetes is due to the autoimmune destruction of beta-cells. Within the pancreas, one of the cell types in the islets of Langerhans is beta cells. Gender inequality and The Work Place The society in which we live has been shaped historically by males. The policy makers have consistently been males and therefore it is not surprising that our society reflects those biases which exist in result of this male dominating society. One might think that gender inequality in the work place is rooted in what shapes future employees and employers. Women have always taken a back seat to men in American society. This is not only found in the United States, but in other countries as well. The problem of men and women not being equal can be traced back to the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence proclaimed that all men are created equal. There was no mention of women being equal, only men. At the time of the drafting of the document, the men had all the power. The document was even drafted by a man; Women were confined to the home to take care of the domestic housekeeping duties. Sociologist Perspective In my research on work place inequality, I read a perspective from a sociologist named Sandra Bem who focuses on gender. However, unlike most female sociologist, Bem chooses not to focus on the differences between males and females, but rather on their similarities. She says that polarized gender socialization, the way that we assign masculine or feminine characteristics to things such as walking and talking to make males and females appear to be different, keeps us from realizing that the sexes are more alike than they are opposite. Men and women have the same needs for food, clothing, shelter, affection, belonging and so on. Whether by choice or economic necessity, woman have entered the paid labor force in numbers recent years, and so they should be entitled to equal pay and respect. Although many people who know these statistics are optimistic about the gain women have made in the United States specifically in employment, it should be noted that women’s positions as a social category in the labor force is lower than men’s in term of status, opportunities and salary. Feminist researchers have used the advancements of women into top-tier management jobs as a litmus test for how well women are faring in the labor force as a whole. Studies continue to confirm that women hold a small percentage of the top positions. Causes of Gender Inequality in the Workplace The causes of gender equality in these positions stem from four stereotypes; Sexism : American cultural belief that women are best suited for jobs that emphasize service, nurturing, housekeeping, men best suited for careers of high-level decision making and authority, Lack of qualifications: Men typically have more education and job experience than women 28% of men age 25+ have completed at least 4 years of college 27% of Women Men have more job experience because women loose time during pregnancy and child care, The glass ceiling: subtle and unconscious discrimination that prevents them from reaching higher and better-paying positions for which they are qualified. Women and minorities make up 30% of middle managers in U. S. but less than 1% of chief execs, networking: Men use golf clubs, other rec places where women were discouraged from going. The Functionalist Perspective According to functionalist Talcott Parsons (1955), gender inequality is inevitable because of the biological division of labor: Men are generally stronger than women and have certain abilities and interest. Parson said, men find themselves more suited to be goal oriented and women to expressive. Other functionalist explanations of gender inequality focus on the human capital that men and women bring to the workplace. According to human capital explanations, what individuals earn is based on choices they have made, including choices about the kinds of training and experiences they accumulate. For example, human capital analysts argue that women diminish their human capital when they leave the labor force to engage in childbearing and child care activities. So this is why they have less experience. It takes two to tangle that’s unprecedented. Conclusion/Solution Inequality has kept in place because of beliefs and practices that have been drilled into people’s minds for so long. When will women be treated as equals to men in the work place? I don’t see a change happening in the near future. Women are slowly being treated more as equals to men but the gap will never narrow to complete equality. Women should, not only be treated as equal in the work place, but also in everything else as well. Whether it is a computer scientist, an athlete, or a president of the United States, women should be treated as equal to men. Gender discrimination has gone too far and we, as a society, have to draw the line. We can’t change past issues, but we can certainly change the future. The corporate responsibility of the bank is to excel in delivering its vision which aims at securing and enhancing the financial status of the people and other businesses (Commonwealth Bank of Australia, August 2017). The major problem facing Commonwealth Bank The major problem which has been affecting Commonwealth Bank is the customers unsatisfaction with the bank. Most customers are not satisfied with the services offered by the bank and have ended up leaving the bank, and this has raised the churn rate. However, the bank has been working extremely hard to make sure it satisfies most of its customers to reduce the churn rate of the customers. The key metrics that define and address the customers unsatisfaction The bank has undertaken some key metrics to make sure it satisfies most of its customers for them to remain royal. Firstly, the bank has increased the customers engagement in its innovations, and this has helped to increase its profits. The bank recorded an increase of 2 percent in the net profits in the 2016 financial year. The engagement of customers in its innovations and other operations has helped to increase the profits made by the bank and has also improved the customers satisfaction in the business. Commonwealth Bank was ranked number one in the retail customer satisfaction in all the months of the 2016 financial year (Williams, 2016). Also, the bank has been giving some rewards and other bonuses to its customers. These rewards and bonuses have helped to improve the customers satisfaction, and many customers have remained to be loyal to the bank. Another metric undertaken by the Commonwealth Bank to address the issue of customer satisfaction is giving loans to its customers at reasonably low-interest rates. The low-interest rates offered by the bank have resulted in improved customers satisfaction, and many customers have joined the bank which has led to an increase in the net profits margins of the bank (Koppenheffer, October 2013). Another metric which the bank has taken to improve the satisfaction of the customers is to make sure it pays all of its employees well. Paying the employees well helps to improve their motivation. The major methods used in the analysis of the data include the use of some special computer software such as Microsoft Excel, SPSS, and other special statistical software. Other methods which can be used in the data analysis include the use of some special mathematical software such as Microsoft Mathematics or other software such as SAP. We have many other methods and different software which are used in data analysis and the choice of the method and the software to use depends on the complexity, the size, and the type of data to be analyzed. This is the plan which gives the full analysis of the stakeholders. It considers the stakeholders interests, the capabilities of the stakeholders to oppose reforms or accommodate them, and the contributions of the stakeholders in formulating and implementing certain policies in the bank. We have four major attributes of the stakeholders which are considered before designing the system. These are the stakeholders positions in the bank, the powers or the influences of the stakeholders, the levels of the interests of the stakeholders, and the groups or coalitions where the stakeholders belong or where they can be associated with. These attributes define the capabilities of the stakeholders in the formulation and implementation of various policies of the bank (Boutelle, 2004). These attributes should be considered for us to understand the different roles of different stakeholders in the bank. The concepts of data analytics learned from this assessment Data analytics is the process of cleansing, inspecting, transforming, and modeling of data with the aims of discovering some useful information and suggesting some useful conclusions which help in the process of decision making. Data analytics is very necessary and helps to improve the performance of organizations (Beal, 2016). In this assessment, we have learned several concepts of data analytics. Firstly, in the calculation of churn rate, we learned the formula for calculating the churn rate. Churn rate is normally used to analyze the data of the customers leaving the bank as compared to the number of new customers joining the bank. We use the concept of data analytics to calculate the churn rates of different organizations. In this assessment, we have learned some data analytics method. We have learned how to use Microsoft Excel do some analysis on the data of Commonwealth bank. We also learn the different modes of tabulations of different types of data. We have also used some graphs to tabulate some statistical data of the bank which enhance our data analytics skills. The challenges and obstacles overcame in the completion the assessment. One of the major challenges and obstacles in the assessment was getting the sources of the required data. However, extensive research has helped to get the required data. The complexity of some data has also been a serious challenge. I tried to simplify the obtained data reduce its complexity for a better analysis. The problem of unreferenced sources has also been a challenge in the research. Some sources are not references properly, and you cant tell whether the sources are credible or not. I have tried to avoid the problem by avoiding the unreferenced sources and using the referenced credible sources only. Conclusion In the report, we have discussed the operation of the Commonwealth Bank in details. We have also discussed the churn rate of the business and some factors which affect the churn rate. We have also analyzed some data from the Commonwealth Bank, and this analysis has helped us to understand the operation of the Commonwealth Bank well. This has also helped to improve our data analytics skills. We have also discussed some benefits and consequences of the bank which have informed us more about the bank. In our report, we have encountered various challenges which tried to limit the research on the Commonwealth Bank, but we have handled the challenges accordingly to come up with a good report. In conclusion, we can say that taking the case study of the Commonwealth Bank to do some data analysis helps to improve our general understanding in data analysis, problems solving, and digital operations.
